The 4th Ned Nwoko Foundation Golf Tournament, AKA Pete Edochie Honorary Golf Classics, organised to mark the 63th birthday anniversary of the legendary Nollywood actor, Chief Pete Edochie, was concluded with lots of thrills, excitements, glamour and encomiums, as billed.
The one day classical golf tournament, was held on Saturday 7th March 2020, (the birth date of the Nollywood veteran actor), at the Royal Golf Course, Mount Ned Nwoko Tourist and Cultural Centre, Idumuje Ugboko, Aniocha North LGA, Delta State. It was packaged by Ned Nwoko Foundation to honour one of the most Nigerian iconic actor, Chief Pete Edochie, for his contributions to the movie industry vis-a-vis tourism development in Nigeria.
Speaking after the prize award ceremony, the President of Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Mr. Emeka Rollas, commended Prince Ned Nwoko for staging, what he described as ‘the most exciting, glamorous and expensive golf competition ever, in honour of one of the members of the Guild.
Whilst showering encomiums on Prince Ned Nwoko, who is presently leading the campaign for the eradication of malaria in Africa, Mr Rollas described him as a man with a mission to salvage and transformed the socioeconomic fortunes of Nigerians for the better and pray God to continue to endow him with more resources for the good of humanity.
Also speaking, the President, Ladies in Golf Association, South-South Zone, Madam Juliet Monye, stated that the group have concluded arrangements to invest the Star Prince Anioma nation as patron of the Association as a mark of honour and respect for his unalloyed support and contributions to golf development in Nigeria.
In his response, Hon Prince (Dr) Ned Munir Nwoko, thanked everyone who were present at the occasion.
He further added, ‘I always like to support sporting events particularly golf. But, however, I want to confess that I prefer Tennis to golf. ‘I love Tennis, which is my preferred sport. Maybe I will start playing golf from 70.’ He stated.
Prince Ned Nwoko went on to disclosed that he is constructing an 18 hole golf course at the proposed site of the Stars University, Idumuje-Ugboko and assured golf enthusiasts that in few months time, it would be ready to host bigger golf tournaments.
The Dike Anioma, whilst donating golf equipment to Chief Pete Edochie, said, ‘the gesture is to encourage you to start playing golf.’
The golf tournament was quite exciting and interesting. It attracted participants from across Nigeria and around the globe, including John Parker, from USA, who also participated in the 3rd edition of the tournament.
The winners in the various categories of the events went home with mouthwatering prizes.
Among the distinguished personalities who grace the occasion were; Ambassador Tagma Moha ou Ali, the Moroccan Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr and Mrs Pete Edochie, the special guest of honour of the day, Mr Emeka Rollas, President AGN and Madam Juliet Monye, President, South South Golfers Association amongst others.
